Wise Buys - Good Bargains for a Great Cause!

One of Lydia Place’s major funding sources is its thrift shop, Wise Buys. Lydia Place is a transitional housing program that supports women and their children in their transition from homelessness to independence. We support the Lydia Place program and provide good, low-cost items to the general public.

Wise Buys is overseen by an all-volunteer staff and open six days a week; the shelves are stocked with great deals for the savvy shopper. We are always in need of and are accepting your donations of clothing and household items, business has been very good and our need for merchandise is on-going.

In 2008, Wise Buys was seeking a new home because its Holly Street location was then scheduled for demolition. When the commercial space in the restored Laube Hotel became available it was an easy decision to move to the 1224 State Street location. Sales have doubled and donations have tripled which Arla Fowler, store manager, credits to the Laube’s central downtown location.
